I've used other hammocks as camping bed many times in the past. Usually for our Alberta summers the temps get down to 10C, past that the lack of insulation from all sides makes them usually too chilly without an extensive set up that tents start looking preferred.
Two nights ago I trialled this one in -8C, light wind late November night and was very surprised. I'm 205lbs 5'11, with my insulated coveralls on I was just under those sweating warm temps. Perfectly cozy. Although there are no mosquitos I suspect zipped up with a bug net headpiece it would be completely bug proof as well for other seaons, the underquilt is too thick to be bitten through unlike a stand alone regular hammock.
Has enough room inside for a little angled flat laying, and a blanket but probably not for two people, although might be possible with two smaller folks than myself.
I was impressed enough I bought the down evo as well to keep in my truck full time as aside from anything past -10c I'd say this could handle it with clothes on in a worst case scenario.
Also, it's not stated but I see no reason this couldn't be used as a sleeping bag/blanket if a tent was around with open space.
Really just a versatile piece of gear that I have no regrets owning two of.
these chairs are awesome! I think they are so fun and easy to put together. Love being able to rock and lean back! I will say that these probably aren’t best if you need to get up and down frequently or if you don’t want to be pretty low to the ground.
Originally got this to try hammock camping out but as a side sleeper, it just wasnt working out. I’m still able to use it as a lightweight, versatile shelter system along with the Abrigo rain fly. I toss a sleeping pad on the floor and use my hammock as a gear sling, it’s so convenient. Being able to have an “awning” on the door side and a pitched roof for the opposite end gives you enough room to cook or hang out under without getting rained on as well. Set up/take down is a breeze.
This pillow is great. The comfort and benefit of a good nights sleep while camping is worth the extra space it takes up.
